Le Moulin d'Opio

Nested in the heart of Provence in the hinterland of Nice between Cannes and Grasse, in the small Provencal village of Opio you will discover one of the largest oil mills in the region. For 7 generations, the Moulin d'Opio belongs to the Michel family. In 1848, it was Monsieur Authion who took over this secular establishment. The wheel of the Traditional Mill fed by the water of the Brague runs quietly as time passes, until the day when Mr. Roger Michel inherits this case. He decides to upset the habits by installing a more productive traditional mill. In spite of the great frost of 1956, which practically crumbled all the surrounding olive groves, this mill was maintained by the will of its owners. While the other confreres closed their doors, it was the love and the passion of the milling profession that allowed the Michel family to continue to triturate the olives of the producers of the Mediterranean basin.

The commitment to the Mediterranean flavors and their attachment to the soil has transported the Michel family to a notoriety in the field of olive cultivation. When Roger Michel's daughter, Christine took over this family business, she decided to expand the mill with modern facilities. Today, we are pressing the olives of small producers and individuals. Even from a very small amount of olives, everyone can come to us and leave with his oil. Thanks to her will, she has managed to reconcile innovation and tradition. Indeed, you will not miss the opportunity to visit us, to notice the installation of the shop in the old mill dating from the 15th century where one can admire the old presses in cut stone as well as the old millstones formerly trained By wooden gears that have remained intact since their last use 2 centuries ago.

Opening hours :

• Summer (April 1 - Sept. 31): Monday to Saturday from 9:30 am to 1:00 pm and from 2:30 pm to 7:00 pm. Closed on Sundays and public holidays (with exceptions).
• Winter (Oct. 1 - March 31): Monday afternoon to Saturday from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm and from 2:00 pm to 6:30 pm. Closed on Monday mornings, Sundays and public holidays (with exceptions).
